Civil Design Engineer Workflow

Focus: Civil design fundamentals, documentation, and project initiation.

Weeks 1–4

  • Create an ATS-ready professional resume highlighting civil design projects and software exposure.

  • Attend a technical assessment to evaluate structural and design fundamentals.

  • Get introduced to real-world workflows followed by leading firms (L&T, TATA Projects, AECOM, etc.).

  • Begin Project 1: Residential/Commercial Building Design.

  • Conduct simulated client meetings to gather site data and project requirements.

  • Prepare BRD (Business Requirement Document) and DBR (Design Basis Report).

  • Understand building codes, zoning, and site orientation rules.

Focus: Design development, foundational analysis, and software integration (AutoCAD, Revit, STAAD Pro).

Weeks 5–8

  • Develop conceptual architectural designs and structural frameworks.

  • Create site layouts and orientation plans compliant with IS codes.

  • Conduct basic load analysis and concept validation.

  • Model and analyze structural elements (beams, slabs, columns, footings) in STAAD.Pro/ETABS.

  • Validate structural integrity against IS 456 & IS 1893 standards.

  • Document design assumptions and load combinations for client review.

Focus: Engineering documentation and quantity preparation.

Weeks 9–12

  • Prepare detailed structural drawings and reinforcement detailing in AutoCAD.

  • Create Bar Bending Schedules (BBS) and structural detailing sheets.

  • Prepare BOQ (Bill of Quantities) and perform cost estimation.

  • Develop material specifications with reference to IS Codes.

  • Collaborate with quality and drafting teams for design reviews and approval workflows.

  • Perform revision tracking using DAP (Design Approval Process).

Focus: Project communication, design approval, and multi-department collaboration.

Weeks 13–16

  • Simulate coordination with site engineers, contractors, and QA/QC teams.

  • Manage project revisions, MOM documentation, and change requests.

  • Finalize GA drawings, estimations, and structural reports for submission.

  • Prepare PCR (Project Completion Report) highlighting design issues and mitigation measures.

  • Submit project deliverables through standardized document management systems.

  • Begin Project 2 or a collaborative BIM-based structure design with Revit/ETABS integration.

Focus: Review presentations, mock interviews, and job readiness.

Weeks 17–20

  • Conduct design review presentations simulating client meetings.

  • Prepare for HR and technical interviews on civil workflow, STAAD analysis, and design codes.

  • Participate in mock interviews and portfolio reviews.

  • Update resume to include verified project experience.

  • Placement support and guidance with top infrastructure firms and consultancies.

After 5 months, learners will:

  • Handle full-cycle building design projects independently.

  • Apply IS codes confidently across conceptual, structural, and quantity estimation tasks.

  • Present and justify design choices to clients and auditors.

  • Be placement-ready for roles like Structural Design Engineer, BIM Civil Designer, or Site Design Coordinator.
